BEHOLD, I TELL YOU A MYSTERY OF FOUR WOODS BOTH PASSING AND ETERNAL,
The Tree…the Eden Tree.
“There, see it?” The Tree to make mankind wiles and full of knowledge,
But is forbidden fruit is the seed of death.
Eating of its fruit gives one the knowledge of Adam,
But not the wisdom of God.
Beautiful to look at and good is its taste to me,
But loathsome to my stomach.
Give to me the salving fruit of the Tree of Life.
“Denied!” Else we eat and live in rebellion to the Creator eternally.
Where in the Garden grows the Tree whose leaves and fruit can remove from my heart, mind, body, and soul the cold iron clasp of sin and death that I may live and be free?
“Wretched man that I am, is there no Life Tree for me?”
O, yes, it is found on a hill, near to a Garden, not called Eden, but Gethsemane. One may eat there, on the Hill of the Skull, of the fruit of the Golgotha Tree.
Those who believe eat the Holy food called – “my flesh and my blood” – bread and cup – man and God – which feeds the spirit and soul of those who come to the Tree on the Hill, near the Garden of Prayer, by immersion in the Life giving Fountain of Blood, at the foot of the Golgotha tree.
Again, hope is raised in the hearts of mankind healed by the leaves of the Golgotha Tree, fed by its fruit, once and for all time, made free of sin, to live for Thee.
The Eden Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil and, its twin, the Tree of Life,
are long out of sight;
The Golgotha Tree is everywhere in sight;
The Tree of Life, forever near the throne of God, restored to mankind,
freely giving its life saving fruit and leaves
extends its arms to all ethne** in the eternal Paradise,
Garden of our Father, the Holy City.
* Four Woods: The Eden Tree – Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil; The Tree of Life- denied to mankind (Genesis 3:22-24); The Cross- Tree of Golgotha (Matthew 27:59; Acts 13:29; Galatians 3:13; 1Peter 2:24); and The Heavenly tree of Life with its healing fruit and leaves restored to mankind (Revelation 2:7; 22:2, 14).
** The Greek word, ethne, used by our Lord means peoples or all ethnic groups or, “all the nations” (Matthew 28:19).
